About Me

It’s all about the community for Janie Shumaker.

“Being able to work in the community where I grew up is great,” she said. “My customers have watched me get married and have a family. They trust me with their finances and after more than 24 years, they have become family.”

For Shumaker, the sincere connections she makes with her customers are the essence of Banking Texas Style.

“CBTx is both family- and community-oriented,” she said. “Our customers appreciate the fact that CBTx not only cares about them and their communities, they care about their employees and their families as well.”

Shumaker was born in Lufkin and lived in the DFW area as a child before moving to Wells during junior high. She joined the CBTx team as a senior in high school on a work program and was offered a full-time position after graduation. She is a member First Baptist Church and serves on the Wells Community Homecoming Association, the Mt. Hope Cemetery Board, the site base committee and the Drug Free Panel at Central ISD and the City of Wells Community Toy Drive.

She and her husband have two children, a daughter who is attending Texas A&M and a son who is attending Central High School. Shumaker is fostering a shelter pup, Ace, for her daughter while she attends college. She enjoys traveling, reading, watching her son play basketball and spending time with her daughter in C-Stat.

What was the first job you ever had? 

Other than a few babysitting jobs and a short stint at a local café, the bank has been my only job!

What’s your favorite childhood memory?

First plane ride, we flew from Dallas to Houston

What’s your favorite movie?

(TV) Longmire. I’m also a huge Hallmark fan!

Do you play any instruments or sing?

Other than karaoke.

If you could possess any superpower, what would it be?

To destroy cancer!
